Seizure Diagnostic Center

The Seizure Diagnostic Center at White Plains Hospital is the only Level 4 Specialized Epilepsy Center in the region, as rated by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC).

The Level 4 designation is applied to hospitals and medical centers that provide the more complex forms of intensive neuro-diagnostics monitoring, as well extensive medical, neuropsychological and psychosocial treatment, according to the NAEC. Level 4 centers also offer a complete evaluation for epilepsy surgery, including intracranial electrodes, and provide a broad range of surgical procedures for epilepsy.

Our multidisciplinary team is comprised of neurologists specializing in epilepsy, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, nurse clinicians, pharmacologists, psychiatrists, educational counselors, social workers and technologists.

We evaluate each patient with state-of-the-art technology to provide the basis for accurate assessments of various seizure disorders. We also confer with the patient’s personal physician regarding the most promising treatment options. Several hundred patients receive treatment each year at our Center.

Services and treatments

The White Plains Hospital Seizure Diagnostic Center offers office consultations and testing, an inpatient epilepsy monitoring unit, and an outpatient epilepsy clinic for patients with complex conditions.

Our digital Video-EEG monitoring system—the simultaneous taping of the patient's behaviors and recording of brain activity—is one of the most sophisticated systems in the United States.

Counseling

To best benefit our patients, our Seizure Center offers education and social and psychological counseling. Members of the team work closely with the regional chapter of the Epilepsy Foundation of America. Patients may also elect to attend the Epilepsy Support Group.
