Breast Cancer Surgery
We believe that every patient deserves peace of mind when it comes to breast cancer care, and our team makes every effort to see patients within 24-working hours of initial diagnosis. We offer prompt individualized care based on the most current scientific evidence, spanning the entire spectrum from prevention and early diagnosis through treatment with the latest surgical techniques.
Breast Cancer is treated via a multi-disciplinary approach starting with diagnosis and pathology. Each person with a diagnosis of breast cancer receives individualized care tailored to them and the specifics of their breast cancer while following standards of evidenced based medicine. Our extensive support services provide additional resources to assure each individuals needs are addressed in a pre-emptive manner.
The Hospital employs advanced and minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and stage breast cancer, including the Scout wire-free radar breast localization system. This enables precise localization of the tumor, and guides the removal of a tumor during a lumpectomy procedure. This technology improves probability of complete cancer removal, while improving patient experience with surgery as well as aesthetic outcomes among breast cancer patients.
If surgery is indicated, your breast surgeon will discuss options of breast conservation (often called a lumpectomy, partial mastectomy, segmentectomy) as well as mastectomy. Our fellowship-trained surgeons optimize aesthetic outcomes for patients choosing lumpectomy, as well as nipple-sparing mastectomy, which basic research and clinical trials have demonstrated to be an option for many women electing to have a mastectomy. We believe that this type of immediate state-of-the-art care is only possible through a multi-disciplinary team approach and should continue beyond treatment.
In addition, our highly trained, Magnet-designated nurses, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, physical therapists, social workers and case managers work in-sync with the breast surgeons and other specialists to provide well-coordinated and compassionate care for patients who are recovering from surgery. Treatment of breast cancer may also include chemotherapy, radiation oncology, and routine surveillance.
