See where sodium is hiding

Steering clear of the saltshaker is one way to cut sodium from your diet. Another great step: Cut back on foods that already contain sodium. That's easier than you might think. Just six types of food are responsible for much of the sodium we consume. If you're tempted to reach for these foods, read the labels first and know how much salt is in each bite.

6 surprisingly salty foods

These 6 foods are the top sources of sodium in our diets

  1. Breads and rolls.
  2. Pizza.
  3. Sandwiches.
  4. Cold cuts and cured meats.
  5. Soups.
  6. Burritos and tacos.
