Reclaiming An Active Life

Mike Knee surgery

With decades spent skiing and serving as a ski patroller, Mike was used to staying active. But at 73, after kneeling to clean out his car, he felt a sharp pain in his right knee unlike anything before. What followed was a severe limp that quickly began limiting his daily life.

He tried the usual course of treatment with cortisone injections, gel shots, and physical therapy. Imaging revealed significant damage to the inside of his knee, and multiple specialists agreed: he would need a partial knee replacement.

Ultimately, Mike chose Dr. Michael Gott at White Plains Hospital.

Back on the Slopes and the Court

"I wanted to make sure I was making the right decision," Mike says. "Dr. Gott reviewed everything carefully and explained exactly what needed to be done. I felt confident moving forward with his expertise."

During surgery, Dr. Gott discovered the damage was more extensive than scans had shown and addressed it fully. The advanced procedure was performed using robotic-assisted technology, and Mike was well enough to go home the same day. Physical therapy began immediately after in coordination with his doctors.

For Mike, the experience extended beyond the operating room. From the surgical team to the recovery staff, he felt informed and supported throughout. "Everyone took the time to explain their role and answer my questions," he says. "I felt very well cared for."

Most importantly, his knee no longer defines his limits. Today, he's back to activities he had been forced to give up. "I ski all day and I'm back on the tennis court," he says. "That's what I wanted out of this."
