Roger Canell was born on July 25th, 1941 in New York City. He graduated from City College of NY and received an MBA from Baruch before becoming a CPA. He and his wife Elaine of 60 years raised their 3 children, Jay and Neil Canell and Dina Cohen in Scarsdale where the two of them have lived for 49 years.Roger was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in October 2021. Since that day he fought an incredible fight with the support and love of family and friends. Roger passed away on October 4, 2023. In addition to his wife Elaine, Roger is survived by his three children Jay (Sari), Neil (Loren) and Dina (Jason) and his 7 grandchildren (Jordan, Hayley, Dylan, Charlie, Emily, Jared and Harper). We cannot possibly express the gratitude we have for his oncologist, Joshua Raff, MD and the entire team at White Plains Hospital. As we also lost Roger’s brother Andrew to Pancreatic Cancer four years ago, we decided to join Dr. Raff’s Pancreatic Screening Study and our family has funded the program for the next several years. The Pancreatic Cancer Early Detection Program (PCEDP) is one of White Plains Hospitals most innovative programs. Individuals from families who have a first-degree relative, meaning a parent, sibling, or child, with pancreatic cancer are estimated to have an increased lifetime risk of pancreatic cancer that is three to five times higher than the general population. Dr. Raff's program helps address this issue with the end goal of preventing late diagnoses and improving survival rates. Today, we hope that you will join us in making a gift to White Plains Hospital to honor Roger's memory and support this important program. Philanthropy helps ensure the success of this study, and we know that Roger would be thrilled that his legacy will continue to help support the Hospital and patients affected by this awful disease.
