NICU Read-A-Thon

White Plains Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has registered to participate in the third annual Babies With Books International Read-A-Thon taking place September 12th – 22nd! The Babies With Books Read-a-thon is a friendly reading competition between NICUs to encourage reading with babies for its many benefits to NICU babies and families. In order to read as many books as possible to our NICU babies, we are asking for support by way of book donations (books must be brand new and ideally board material for infection control purposes) or monetary donations that would enable our NICU staff to purchase books for families to read in the NICU and take home with them.

During a newborn’s time in the NICU, critical brain development is occurring, including the development of pathways that control language skills. By reading to these babies, parents and caregivers are not only bonding with them and reducing some of the mutual stress of being in the NICU, but they are also greatly contributing to the baby’s brain development. Your generosity will help ensure that all of our NICU families have a plentiful supply of books to encourage bonding and development and keep White Plains Hospital in the race for most books read to our NICU babies!

The NICU staff has set up a book wish list. You can purchase books and have them sent directly to WPH by clicking here: https://www.amazon.com/registries/custom/DBI975TCHNX1/guest-view

To make a monetary donation that the NICU staff can use to order books, please fill out the form below.

If you have any questions or would like to purchase books and drop them off directly at the Hospital, please contact Brooke Emmett at bemmett@wphospital.org or 914-849-7154.

Thank you so much for your generous support, and we look forward to updating you on the outcome
of the Read-A-Thon!
