Enhancing stroke care

White Plains Hospital is expanding its high-quality stroke program that treats hundreds of patients each year. In 2019 the Hospital was the first hospital in Westchester County to receive The Joint Commission's Advanced Certification, which is a step toward securing the Thrombectomy Capable Stroke Center designation.

The Thrombectomy Capable designation signifies that the Hospital meets rigorous standards for performing a surgical procedure used to remove a blood clot from the brain during an ischemic stroke.

To provide an even higher level of care to our stroke patients, later this year we will introduce a new Biplane suite, allowing us to perform a breakthrough treatment called mechanical thrombectomy. This advanced system produced multiple three-dimensional views of blood vessels leading to and deep within the brain, helping physicians diagnose and intervene faster during a stroke – possibly preventing permanent damage and minimizing long-term disability.
