At White Plains Hospital we recognize that age is a state of mind, but our bodies don’t always agree. The exceptional geriatric specialists at White Plains Hospital - with additional advanced training focused on the needs of older individuals - are ready to address the often complex chronic and acute health conditions that come with advanced age.
Because managing multiple diseases can be complex and challenging, a multi-disciplinary approach is sometimes needed. Our geriatricians work closely as a team with the patient’s primary care physician as well as other specialty physicians, nurse practitioners, social workers, physical and occupational therapists, as well as patients and their caregivers, to ensure all needs are being met, including:
- Maintaining physical and cognitive function in the hospital
- Addressing decision making and advance directives
- Developing a discharge plan with the patient, family and caregivers
The nurses who treat senior patients at White Plains Hospital are special, too. We are only one of only two hospitals in Westchester County to receive NICHE, or Nurses Improving Care for Health System Elders, designation from the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing at New York University (NYU). The designation recognizes a strong commitment by hospitals to geriatric nursing care.
