Family Investments

Over the past few years we have celebrated multiple ribbon cuttings, expansions and openings – we keep growing and adding as we solidify our role as the hub of advanced care here in the Hudson Valley.  Last week we marked another milestone: the opening of our expanded Radiation Oncology Department and the new Center for Radiosurgery.

Located in the Center for Cancer Care, which was expanded and renovated in early 2016, the new Center for Radiosurgery sits within the new Paul and Harriet Weissman Department of Radiation Oncology, boasting the first and only Varian Edge® radiosurgery system in Westchester, Rockland or Fairfield counties. This technology can shrink tumors in many parts of the body with precise, high dosage treatments, often in as little as one session. This “surgical precision without the incision,” as we are calling it, is a game changer. It contributes to improved outcomes and a better quality of life for patients who can be treated with higher doses of radiation in shorter amounts of time, and minimal impact on healthy surrounding tissue.

The new space and technology was made possible largely by donations from families who have been at the heart of the Hospital’s own family for decades. These generous donors, along with staff, community and Hospital leaders, and grateful patients all gathered during the ribbon cutting in the new space.  Many of the speakers were cancer survivors themselves, lending the program to reflect a deep sense of appreciation for their Hospital family who are committed to making lives better, not just through investments in technology and state-of-the-art facilities but through a genuine investment in every aspect of their patients’ lives.
