Celebrating an exceptional past, and an inspiring future

POSTED BY White Plains Hospital
April 30, 2018
Last week, we celebrated our 125th anniversary at the annual meeting of White Plains Hospital. The annual meeting is a public forum to recap White Plains Hospital's achievements and challenges of the year, present a vision for our path forward, and honor longtime supporters and friends.

This year, we took the opportunity to reflect on our Hospital’s extraordinary history which paved the way to today's success. Founded in 1893 in a four-room building on Chatterton Parkway by thirteen women and four men from the rural community White Plains Hospital not only survived these last 125 years, but has truly thrived. The organization that we know today, which cares for more than 200,000 people every year, has succeeded well beyond the expectations of our founders. They didn't forsee the growth that would occur throughout the past 125 years. At that time, our small hospital had one physician making house calls on horseback.

We reflected on this last week—on our history of growth, of service, of dedication to our community, and of care without compromise—which has been our guiding compass for these last 125 years. We honored seven physicians who have served our patients for 50 years or more, devoting their lives to excellent patient care. And we left our own mark, in the form of a time capsule to be opened at the Hospital’s 200th anniversary in 2093, for the future generations that will follow us.

We hope you will learn more about our exceptional past, and that you stay with us for what we also know will be an inspiring future.
