An enhanced service at the Hospital, interventional oncology is a subspecialty of interventional radiology that uses image guidance and minimally invasive procedures including embolization and ablation to treat and cure many types of cancer by shrinking and destroying tumors. It is the fastest growing area in interventional radiology and has been recognized as another pillar of oncologic care, together with radiation oncology, medical oncology, and surgical oncology. Dr. Roayaie brings unique surgical skills to provide individualized care for patients needing complex liver, bile duct and pancreas resections. He has extensive experience in transplant surgery and with the treatment of primary liver cancers such as hepatocellular carcinoma and cholangiocarcinoma, benign tumors such as adenoma, focal nodular hyperplasia (FNH), and hemangiomas as well as liver metastases from colorectal, neuroendocrine and other cancers. Dr. Roayaie’s expertise also extends to the treatment of bile duct and pancreatic cancers. He has been a leader in the development of minimally invasive hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. Dr. Roayaie not only performs any needed operations, but also works together with a multidisciplinary team including interventional radiology, radiation oncology, gastroenterology and oncology to devise an entire treatment program for patients who are not eligible for surgery.

Armonk, NY (November 17, 2015) – White Plains Hospital expanded its reach with the opening today of an urgent care center, comprehensive imaging center, and medical offices at White Plains Hospital Medical and Wellness in Armonk. This marks the first time a hospital has opened an urgent care center in Westchester. The 24,000-square-foot facility, located at 99 Business Park Drive, is easily accessible from routes 684 and 22 to residents of communities from Pleasantville to Bedford to Rye Brook and Greenwich, Connecticut. Mary Franco, of New Canaan, CT, has joined White Plains Hospital in a newly created position as Executive Director of the Foundation. In this role, Ms. Franco will oversee fundraising and donor cultivation for the organization, building on existing and new relationships between the Hospital and the community.
Surgeon Rafik El Sabrout, MD, PhD, FACS, FRCS(G), successfully performed a laparoscopic removal of a liver tumor at White Plains Hospital on April 16th as part of a multi-disciplinary team. This marks the first time a surgeon has removed this type of tumor using a fully laparoscopic procedure at White Plains Hospital. Laparoscopic surgery is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a thin tube to make small, precise incisions.
White Plains Hospital has once again received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. The Seizure Diagnostic Center at White Plains Hospital has once again been recognized as a Level 4 Epilepsy Center by the National Association of Epilepsy Centers (NAEC). Level 4 epilepsy centers have the professional expertise and facilities to provide the highest-level medical and surgical evaluation and treatment for patients with complex epilepsy.

White Plains Hospital has been recognized once again for its commitment to the quality care of older adults by the NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) program. NICHE is the premier designation indicating a hospital’s commitment to excellence in the care of patients 65 years and older. White Plains Hospital originally received the designation in 2012, and is one of only two hospitals in Westchester to receive NICHE Exemplar status. Exemplar status recognizes White Plains Hospital’s ongoing, high-level dedication to geriatric care.

White Plains Radiology Associates, PC has signed an agreement to be in full and exclusive alignment with White Plains Hospital as of April 1st. Approximately 60 board-certified radiologists, technicians and other staff are part of the group, which offers advanced imaging services to Westchester County residents under the direction of Drs. Paul Khoury and Andre Khoury. The group, in operation since the mid 1980’s, will now be known as White Plains Hospital Radiology and will continue to provide a wide range of imaging services, including CT scans, PET scans, ultrasounds, x-rays, mammograms and MRIs.

Jeffrey A. Tiesi, F.A.C.H.E., has been named Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (C.O.O.) of White Plains Hospital. Mr. Tiesi has a long and successful track record in the management of healthcare institutions. He comes to White Plains Hospital from the Geisinger Health System in Danville, PA, where he has served as System Vice President and was responsible for the Geisinger Heart and Vascular Institute (GH&VI). Geisinger Health System is an integrated health services organization widely recognized for innovative delivery of healthcare, serving more than 2.6 million residents in central and northeast Pennsylvania. Before joining Geisinger in 2002, Mr. Tiesi was Vice President at the Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, PA, and also previously held multiple administrative positions at Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, NY.
Montefiore Health System and White Plains Hospital have announced that their partnership agreement has been approved by the New York State Health Commissioner. White Plains Hospital is now a member of Montefiore Health System, serving as the tertiary hub of Montefiore’s growing Westchester network. White Plains Hospital topped off the final piece of steel yesterday on a modern new cancer care building at the corner of Longview Avenue and East Post Road. With construction and iron workers from A.P. Construction and Local 40 Ironworks looking on, the steel beam, which was signed by hundreds of hospital staff members, patients and community leaders on December 17th, was hoisted six stories into the air and placed atop the new structure.

White Plains Hospital President Susan Fox and Board Chairman J. Michael Divney were joined today by White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach as well as Cancer Center physicians, nurses, and patients to sign the final beam for a modern new cancer care facility rising next to the existing Dickstein Cancer Center. When construction is finished in fall 2015, the 40,000-square-foot, 6-story building will nearly double the size of the Hospital’s cancer program to 70,000 square feet, and will provide space for the Hospital’s growing number of cancer experts, researchers, and patients. The construction is part of the Hospital’s campus-wide enhancements, which include a new 6-story patient tower with new operating suites, private patient rooms, lobby and entranceway on Davis Avenue, as well as the addition and expansion of the building for cancer services on the corner of E. Post Road and Longview Avenue.

(March 31, 2016) – White Plains Hospital is the first hospital in the greater New York City metropolitan area to use the innovative BIOVIGIL hand hygiene system to help prevent Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) by ensuring all employees who come into contact with patients have the cleanest hands possible.
