Cancer clinical trials

The White Plains Hospital Center for Cancer Care is home to a variety of clinical trials offering patients promising new therapies for cancer prevention and treatment. Using the latest in diagnostic approaches, cutting-edge technology, and novel drugs, the Hospital provides patients access to advanced research and clinical trials, close to home.

We are proud to be recognized as a model for a successful clinical trials program in a community cancer center.

FAQ about cancer clinical trials

What is a clinical trial?

Clinical trials are research studies that explore whether a treatment or device is safe and effective for humans. These studies also may show which medical approaches work best for certain illnesses or groups of people. Following extensive research in the laboratory, cancer researchers test new methods on how to identify and diagnose cancer, prevent cancer, and manage side effects from cancer treatments by conducting clinical trials.

The best way to find cancer treatments that are effective in people is by conducting clinical trials, which help determine the standard treatments of the future. With the support of cancer patients who participate in clinical trials, we will be able to find new and better treatments to fight cancer.

Many clinical trials involve immunotherapy, a novel oncological therapy that uses the patient's own immune system to fight cancer.

Some patients who have not responded to established treatment protocols can benefit from a clinical trial.

Am I eligible for a clinical trial?

As a patient being treated at the Center for Cancer Care, you may be eligible to take part in a clinical trial. Each clinical trial has its own strict guidelines about who can or cannot participate, known as inclusion/exclusion criteria. Patients who are interested in participating in a clinical trial should discuss both the potential risks and benefits of participation with their physician before making a final decision.

A patient will never be placed on a clinical trial without their permission. All eligible patients involved in clinical trials will be fully educated on what the clinical trial entails and will sign a consent form prior to the start of the study.

We hope that you will consider participating in a clinical trial at the Hospital. If you are interested, please speak with your physician about the trials that may be available to you.
