Breast cancer is most treatable when found in its earliest stages. At White Plains Hospital we offer a variety of methods for the early detection of breast cancer including checkups, breast screening exams, mammography and ultrasound.
Our breast team has expertise caring for women who are at low, moderate and high risk for breast cancer with effective prevention protocols that include genetic testing and breast screening. We can help you determine which screening tests and evaluations will best fit your personal needs.

Benign Breast Conditions
Benign (non-cancerous) breast conditions such as fibrocystic changes and breast cysts are quite common and are not life-threatening. However, many benign breast conditions can cause bothersome symptoms such as soreness, discomfort or pain, and some are associated with an elevated risk of breast cancer. Our breast team can determine if your condition is benign and if additional follow up is needed, and can suggest treatment approaches that can relieve your symptoms.

Our breast team uses several modalities to diagnose and evaluate the stage and extent of breast cancer including:
- Digital mammography
- 3D mammography
- Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
- Breast ultrasonography
Based on the results of these exams, your doctor may recommend further tests or therapy, or determine that not treatment is necessary.
A biopsy can determine if a breast lump or abnormal tissue is cancer. White Plains Hospital offers stereotactic breast biopsy, a fast and minimally-invasive way to obtain these tissue samples.
