Patient Resources & Support


Administrative offices are located on the first floor of the Hospital. Nursing Administration is located on the 5th floor. Administrators are on call 24-hours a day, every day of the year. If you need assistance, call extension 1200, weekdays from 8:30 am to 5 pm; after hours ask the switchboard operator, "0," to contact the Administrator or Clinical Coordinator on call.

Patient Advocacy

Patient Advocacy (ext. 2150) is a direct link to the Hospital administration and serves as a liaison between the patient, the family and the Hospital. The Patient Advocate's goal is to improve the hospital experience by explaining policy, answering questions, and seeking solutions to problems.

Ethics Committee

The Ethics Committee serves as an advisory body to the staff on matters relating to ethical issues presented while rendering care and treatment to patients. If you have ethical concerns about your care or the care of a family member, you may notify your physician, nurse, or contact the ethics committee directly at ext. 2432.

Foreign Language Interpretation

Interpretation services for more than 140 foreign languages are available upon request. Sign Language interpretation is also available. Your nurse can access these services for you or a family member.

Notary Public

The Hospital provides the services of a Notary Public between the hours of 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The service is provided free of charge and a photo ID is required. If you need a Notary Public, please dial ext. 3200 and leave your name, phone number and/or hospital room number. The Notary-on-Call will contact you to schedule an appointment.

Pastoral Care

Care of the spirit is an integral part of patient care at White Plains Hospital. A Chaplain is available to support patients and families who are encountering the challenges of illness, treatment options, or loss.

Worship Services are offered periodically throughout the year. Eucharistic ministers bring communion to Catholic patients weekday evenings. Members of local synagogues offer Sabbath candle lightings and prayers with Jewish patients. Your own religious leaders are always welcome to visit you in the hospital. You may contact the Hospital's Chaplain at ext. 2395.

Social Work & Discharge Planning

The Social Work Department offers professional counseling and discharge planning assistance to help patients and their families cope with emotional and social problems caused by illness and hospitalization. Our dedicated staff is available for consultation, information and referrals to the community. The social workers can also provide financial counseling with regard to health insurance concerns and entitlement programs such as Medicaid. If you or a member of your family would like assistance please contact, or have your nurse contact, the Social Work Department at ext. 1041.

Caregiver Support ProgramCaregiver Support Program

Over 45 million Americans are family caregivers, providing billions of hours of care each year for family members and friends. A caregiver is defined as a family member, partner, friend; essentially anyone who has assumed informal responsibility for helping an individual meet their daily living needs. Over time, caregivers are often stressed and exhausted as they juggle this important role along with other aspects of their lives.

The Caregiver Support Program at White Plains Hospital is designed to provide support, services and resources to those caring for loved ones who face the challenges of acute or catastrophic illness. During the time a loved one is hospitalized, caregivers can seek assistance from hospital volunteers- Caregiver Partners (CP), who are trained and supervised by the departments of Social Services and Volunteer Services. CPs have caregiver experience themselves, and therefore the ability to collaborate with caregivers in a compassionate, understanding manner. CPs provide information regarding many available resources (in the Hospital and within the community), emotional support, coping strategies, and coaching techniques to better manage patient's care while in the hospital and after release (whether to home, a rehab facility or nursing home), and more.

The Caregiver Support Center, located on the fifth floor (room # 563), is a place where caregivers can take a physical and mental respite, talk to a volunteer, use a computer or access valuable information in our resource library.
