White Plains Hospital receives CEO Cancer Gold Standard accreditation for second consecutive year

White Plains, NY (July 6, 2016) – TWhite Plains Hospital has received the CEO Cancer Gold Standard™ accreditation for a second consecutive year. The award recognizes the Hospital’s ongoing effort to reduce cancer risks by cultivating the health and wellness of its employees and their families.

To receive a Gold Standard accreditation, an employer must establish programs to reduce cancer risk in five critical areas. 1.) Implementing policies and programs to reduce the risk of cancer by creating a tobacco free workplace and promoting a physical activities and nutrition. 2.) Ensuring that employees have an easily accessible way of receiving cancer screenings at no cost or a reasonable cost-sharing option. 3.) Providing health insurance benefits that allow individuals to participate in cancer clinical trials. 4.) Sustaining a workplace culture that recognizes the needs of cancer survivors. 5.) Promoting health education that provides employees with information on cancer research studies and clinical trials.

The Hospital has initiated several employee wellness and cancer prevention initiatives in recent months, including providing incentives for employees to receive recommended health screenings for breast and prostate cancer; and signing on to the “80% by 2018” campaign- a commitment to ensure that 80% of adults age 50 and older are screened for colorectal cancer.

The CEO Roundtable on Cancer, a nonprofit organization of CEOs, founded by former President George H.W. Bush, developed and administers the Gold Standard, an employee wellness framework based on taking concrete actions in five key areas to address cancer in the workplace. Nearly 200 private, nonprofit and government employers in a wide range of occupational categories have earned Gold Standard accreditation, including the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and a number of NCI-designated cancer centers.
