Robotic Surgery

Today, when a patient receives a diagnosis that requires surgery there are options, which include minimally-invasive procedures that use smaller incisions. One of those options is the da Vinci Surgical system, also referred to as robotic surgery. White Plains Hospital has been offering patients throughout the region access to this surgical option since 2005.

The da Vinci Surgical System is a tool that utilizes advanced, robotic technologies to assist a surgeon with the operation. It does not act on its own and its movements are controlled by the surgeon. The advantage of using the robot is it allows the surgeon to operate with enhanced vision, dexterity and control in order to make small, precise movements inside a patient’s body.

Robotic surgery offers patients the following benefits:

  • A shorter hospital stay
  • Potential for significantly less pain
  • Decreased blood loss
  • Small incisions for minimal scarring
  • Faster return to normal activities
  • Potential for better surgical outcomes

White Plains Hospital has a number of highly-skilled surgeons specially trained to perform robotic surgery for the following specialties:

  • Prostate/ urologic surgery
  • Gynecologic surgery
  • Colorectal surgery
  • General surgery
  • Thoracic surgery
  • Head and neck surgery

White Plain’s exceptional team of surgeons were, in many cases, the first in Westchester County, and in some cases surrounding areas, to perform highly-specialized robotic surgical procedures including - single-site gynecologic surgery, colorectal surgery, and transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for throat cancer.
