The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at White Plains Hospital (WPH) provides high-quality physical therapy treatments focused on restoring the health and functional abilities of patients after acute illness or injury such as stroke, spinal cord injuries, heart surgery, amputation, joint replacement, sports injuries or spinal disorders. Our staff is dedicated to providing effective physical therapy programs, and to delivering the best possible physical therapy treatments. At White Plains Hospital the physicians and therapists in the physical therapy department work together to help our patients return to their highest levels of independent functioning possible.

For inpatients, physical therapy services include function evaluations so that appropriate discharge plans and treatments can be made. The inpatient care area includes WPH's Westchester Orthopaedic Institute, where joint replacement patients receive intensive physical therapy in our spacious gym in the days immediately following surgery.
In addition to our full-range of inpatient physical therapy services, we also offer comprehensive outpatient physical and occupational therapy at our Rye Brook facility. State-of-the-art services include treatment for sports injuries, work-related illnesses or injuries, balance disorders, back and neck pain and dysfunction, lymphedema treatments, and preparation and recovery from surgery. A Multiple Sclerosis Care Clinic is also on-site.

Speech Therapy Department
The Speech Therapy Department offers inpatient services for speech and swallowing disorders, as well as outpatient care such as speech therapy evaluations and treatments, language disorders, and swallowing disorders. Our outpatient videofluoroscopic swallowing studies (done in conjunction with the White Plains Hospital Radiology Department) help determine why patients have trouble swallowing.
