Series of Programs will Educate and Inform Public on How to Stay Healthy Through Preventative Care
White Plains, NY (March 2011) – This May, White Plains Hospital will celebrate its Fourth Annual Wellness Through Prevention Month, spreading its greater “Wellness as a Way of Life” initiative to the public by holding educational programs about a variety of health topics. White Plains Hospital has partnered with several businesses and organizations in the community to create an exciting and informative series.
“At White Plains Hospital, we are here to help you when you are sick, but we also want to help keep you well,” said Jon B. Schandler, President and CEO. “The programs we have assembled for this year’s Wellness Through Prevention Month address some of today’s most pressing health issues – heart disease, obesity and caring for the aging population – in an engaging and fun way.”
The Wellness Through Prevention Month events schedule follows:
On Monday, May 2 from 5:30-7:30 pm, Wellness Through Prevention Month kicks off with “Uncorking Heart Disease” at Restaurant 42 at the top of The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester towers. Chef Anthony Goncalves and Dr. Roger Cappucci, MD, cardiologist and President of the Hospital’s Medical and Dental Staff, will work together to create a low-sodium, heart-healthy and tasty menu that will be available for sampling. Chef Goncalves and Dr. Cappucci will offer tips on healthy cooking and eating. This event is open to the public and costs $42 per person. Later that week, on Friday, May 6 from 5:30-7:30 pm, the Hospital will host a “Girls’ Night Out” at Neiman Marcus at The Westchester Mall. The night will include fashion, fun and invaluable health information in a fabulous setting. Cardiologist Jeanette Yuen, MD will talk about heart disease in women and the importance of knowing your numbers, and plastic surgeon Robert Reiffel, MD will speak about skin care and how to look your best. On Tuesday, May 10 at 6:00 pm, White Plains Hospital Executive Chef Lee Mingione and White Plains Superintendent of Schools Christopher Clouet will host “Dinner with Dad,” an interactive cooking demonstration that will inspire dads and their kids to cook healthy meals together. This event will take place at the Ridgeway School in White Plains. There is no cost for this event but reservations are required and can be made by calling (914) 681-1119 or online at wphospital.org.
Seniors are encouraged to “Make fitness a way of life” at Senior Health and Fitness Day, which will take place on Wednesday, May 25 from 9 am – 3 pm. This fun-filled day of health and healing at Burke Rehabilitation Center will include a variety of classes, educational seminars and self-improvement information with a special emphasis on Brain Health.
