White Plains, NY (October 2011)
- White Plains Hospital and Destination Maternity present Bringing Baby Home Classes, a workshop designed to strengthen the marital bond so that expectant and new parents will be more effective at navigating the strain and challenges of parenthood on their marriage. The workshops, led by psychologist Suzanne Burger, Psy. D, will be held at Destination Maternity on October 12, 19, and 26 from 7:00-9:00 PM.

Numerous studies have shown that a couples' satisfaction with their marriage takes a nose dive after the first child is born. Sleepless nights and fights over whose turn it is to change diapers can leach the fun out of a relationship. The Bringing Baby Home workshops will help couples strengthen their relationship providing them with tools to better regulate their conflicts and personal differences during a period in life of heightened stress due to sleep deprivation, increased responsibilities and decreased leisure time.

The program, developed by Dr. John Gottman, grew out of years of research looking at the key ingredients to successful marriages and families. Workshop participants can expect to experience higher relationship quality, less interpersonal hostility, and a lower likelihood of postpartum depression.

The Bringing Baby Home workshop at Destination Maternity will be offered in 3 classes. Couples can register for one or two classes but are encouraged to register for all three. The cost is $70 per couple per class or $200 for the full 3-week workshop. You must pre-register to attend the classes. Call (914) 681-1234 to register.
