Dr. Mitchell Brings a Focus in Nipple Sparing Mastectomy and Oncoplastic Breast Conservation

White Plains, NY (September 17, 2012) – Sunny Mitchell, M.D. has joined White Plains Hospital Physician Associates, a recently formed division of the hospital aligning local physicians with Hospital services. She will hold the position of Director of Breast Surgery for White Plains Hospital.
Dr. Mitchell is a highly accomplished breast surgeon who specializes in oncoplastic breast surgery as well as nipple sparing mastectomy. She was most recently an Attending Breast Surgeon at Stamford Hospital, where she also served as Director of the Breast Clinic. She completed her fellowship in Breast Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons and her General Surgery residency training at Stamford Hospital, Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons. She received her medical degree from New York Medical College via the Fifth Pathway Program as a graduate of Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara.
Dr. Mitchell specializes in optimizing aesthetic outcomes in breast surgery. She utilizes oncoplastics for patients opting for breast conservation to optimize aesthetic outcomes and offers nipple sparing mastectomy for patients undergoing mastectomy. Oncoplastic techniques allow the surgeon to remove cancer within appropriate margins while preserving and restoring the natural look and shape of the breast.
Dr. Mitchell is the Primary Investigator and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Committee for the Nipple Sparing Mastectomy Registry sponsored by the American Society of Breast Surgeons. She has also published numerous scholarly articles devoted to the management of breast cancer and other surgical topics. She is the author of chapters on breast anatomy and nipple sparing mastectomy currently in press.
Dr. Mitchell currently serves as Clinical Instructor of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and has served on several quality and education committees at other institutions. She is the recipient of several awards for teaching and academic excellence.
Dr. Mitchell has two office locations; one at the Hospital’s Rye Brook Women’s Imaging Center at 90 South Ridge Street in Rye Brook and another adjacent to the Hospital at 170 Maple Avenue in White Plains.
