White Plains Hospital is excited to announce the completion of our Food Matters Cookbook; a compilation of over 240 recipes for cooks of all levels, a healthy, helpful guide, and cooking tips. Many of the recipes were contributed by the White Plains Hospital Community as well as 21 local Westchester restaurants including Benjamin Steakhouse, BLT, Iron Tomato and 42 The Restaurant & Bellota.

The White Plains Hospital Sleep Center has earned another five year Accreditation from The American Academy of Sleep Medicine. The Sleep Center at White Plains Hospital offers the most advanced sleep diagnostic services, specializing in adult and pediatric sleep disorders.

As part of its sixth annual Wellness Through Prevention Month, White Plains Hospital is offering two outreach events specifically for women focused on cancer prevention and healthy living.

White Plains Hospital has once again received the Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award from the American Heart Association.

The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) has granted its 2012 Outstanding Achievement Award to White Plains Hospital, along with a select group of 78 other accredited cancer programs throughout the United States. Award criteria were based on qualitative and quantitative surveys conducted last year.

In celebration of 120 years as one of Westchester’s top community hospitals, White Plains Hospital will hold a gala fashion show event in partnership with Oscar de la Renta on Thursday, April 25. The show will feature the iconic designer’s fashions in a spectacular, runway show, along with a video presentation, live auction and a lavish cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception. Mary Jane Denzer and Susan Yubas are the event chairs.

White Plains, NY –White Plains Hospital will present this year’s Spring Simon Fashion Now® event, a weekend-long series of fashion shows featuring the newest trends in clothing, shoes and accessories from retailers in the Westchester Mall. The weekend kicks off on Friday evening, April 12th at 5:30 p.m. with Trends & Friends Night on Retail Level One, which will feature demonstrations and samples from P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, Origins, Party Line Rentals, Tranquility Spa & Westchester Wine Warehouse. Also Friday evening, on Center Court on Retail Level One, glasses of prosecco will be sold to benefit the Hospital’s Charles A. Mastronardi Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at White Plains Hospital. The NICU at White Plains Hospital is one of the most advanced in the region, accredited at Level III, the highest accreditation possible for a community hospital.

White Plains, NY – The practice of Sara Sadan, M.D.; Joshua Raff, M.D; Anney Mannancheril, M.D.; Ami Negandhi, M.D.; and nurse practitioners Annie Borofsky, A.N.P. and Sandra Aufiero, A.N.P. is the first Oncology & Hematology group to join White Plains Hospital Physician Associates, a division of the hospital aligning local physicians with Hospital services. The practice will be known as Oncology & Hematology of White Plains and will continue to provide comprehensive medical care to patients with cancer and malignant and non-malignant blood disorders.

White Plains, NY – Leigh Anne McMahon, R.N. of Somers, a seasoned hospital executive with nearly 30 years of experience in nursing, has been promoted to Senior Vice President of Patient Care Services at White Plains Hospital.  McMahon began her nursing career in 1984 as a graduate nurse in the hospital’s telemetry unit and advanced her career to assume several administrative positions, most recently as Vice President of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer.  She will retain her Chief Nursing Officer title and expand her responsibilities in her new position to oversee all aspects of patient care services.  Over the years, McMahon has led the hospital in securing enhanced measures around patient safety and quality, and was a guiding force in the hospital’s achievement in attaining Magnet® designation from the American Nurses Credentialing Center in April, 2012.

White Plains, NY – Alfred Roston, M.D., a respected board-certified gastroenterologist, has assumed the role of President of the Medical and Dental Staff at White Plains Hospital, a two-year position which he will hold until the end of 2014.

White Plains, NY – The Cancer Program at White Plains Hospital has earned another three-year Accreditation with Commendation from The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons. The Commission on Cancer (CoC), a consortium of professional organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer patients through standard-setting, prevention, research, education and the monitoring of comprehensive quality care, is the only multidisciplinary accreditation program for cancer programs in the United States. Its membership includes fellows of the American College of Surgeons and representatives of 47 national organizations that reflect the full spectrum of cancer care.

White Plains, NY – Known throughout the New York metropolitan region as a highly skilled surgeon with unique laparoscopic abilities, Dr. Herbert Gretz, Director of Gynecologic Oncology and Gynecologic Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at White Plains Hospital, was recently awarded the Best Abstract on Gynecologic Oncology at the 41st Annual AAGL (American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopist) Conference in Las Vegas. Dr. Linus T. Chuang, MD, also of White Plains Hospital, and other physicians co-authored the study.

White Plains, NY – The Board of Directors of White Plains Hospital announced today that Susan Fox will become President of the Hospital effective January 1, 2013. Fox, who will be the first woman to be President of an acute care hospital in Westchester County, joins CEO Jon B. Schandler in leading the Hospital.

The Center has provided high-quality digital mammography, as well as breast and pelvic ultrasound and MRI, breast biopsy under ultrasound, and bone densitometry, among many other radiology services since it opened a decade ago. Jerusalem, Israel – Tiltan Pharma Ltd. today announced that it has enrolled the first U.S. patient, at White Plains Hospital in Westchester County N.Y., in a Phase 2 clinical trial of its anti-angiogenic product, TL-118, for the treatment of metastatic pancreatic cancer.

White Plains, NY –Vet Connect – a web-based initiative to raise awareness about the employment, health, and resource needs of veterans in the Hudson Valley region, particularly returning veterans – went live today. This public awareness initiative is the work of the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association (NorMet) and its member hospitals that are located in Westchester and the six counties that comprise the Hudson Valley region. NorMet is the association that represents these hospitals on a variety of hospital and health care legislative and regulatory issues.

White Plains Hospital Named Among US News and World Report's 2012 Best HospitalsWhite Plains, NY White Plains Hospital was recognized this week as one of the top hospitals in New York by the magazine U.S. News and World Report in their 2012 Best Hospitals edition. The publication specifically recognized White Plains Hospital for high performing excellence in two clinical areas: geriatrics and gynecology, and named 112 physicians on staff as Top Doctors. These physicians span 40 specialty areas and were selected based on a peer nomination process.

White Plains, NY – White Plains Hospital today announced a t-shirt design contest which will be one of the many ways it marks October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The winning design from the contest will be produced on shirts that will be sold at the Hospital’s gift shop, on its website, and at The Westchester mall October 20, with all proceeds going to Dickstein Cancer Treatment Center at White Plains Hospital. The contest will run from July 1 – September 16, 2012, with a winner announced by the end of September.

White Plains, NY -White Plains Hospital Geriatrician and Internist Roger Madris, M.D. will present a lecture to the community on healthy aging after age 60 in which he will present and discuss the latest thinking and medical technology in the field of geriatrics to enhance health and overall quality of life for older adults.

The plan gives the primary Hospital entry visual interest and color all year round. Also visible from the main lobby, the plantings provide a splash of color, especially during the spring and summer, to bring a little of the outside in.

White Plains, NY – White Plains Hospital’s Echocardiography Lab was granted accreditation by the Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories (ICAEL). White Plains Hospital’s lab is one of a growing number of echocardiography labs in the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada to be so recognized for its commitment to high quality patient care and its provision of quality diagnostic testing.

White Plains, NY - On August 6th, 2010, 22 local high school and college students completed an intensive, seven-week nurse apprenticeship at White Plains Hospital. The Richard P. Biondi Nurse Apprentice Program was launched in 2006 to address the national shortage of nurses. Today, there are several former apprentices who are studying for their bachelor’s degrees in nursing as well as students who have graduated and are now working as RNs in the Hospital. By the end of 2010, White Plains Hospital expects to have 20 nursing students who have either completed the nurse apprentice or nurse associates program working in the hospital—precisely the goal from the outset of the program.

White Plains, NY – On Valentine’s Day morning, Rye City Councilman Peter Jovanovich began experiencing chest pains while working out at the Rye YMCA. Police officers responded and administered oxygen before EMS arrived and rushed him to White Plains Hospital Center’s new Emergency Department, where he was immediately transferred to the Hospital’s Cardiac Catheterization Lab. There, cardiac specialists discovered a blockage in one of his coronary arteries. Jovanovich became the Hospital’s first patient to undergo emergency angioplasty to restore blood flow to his heart.
