White Plains, NY (January 7, 2014) – White Plains Hospital has announced a major benefit concert featuring performances by legendary Jazz saxophonist Branford Marsalis; and winner of the first season of “The Voice” television singing competition, vocalist Javier Colon. The concert will take place at the recently restored Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY on Thursday evening, February 13th.

The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a special VIP reception featuring cocktails and buffet dinner followed by the concert at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the reception and the concert together are $300, and tickets for general admission for the concert are $75. All proceeds from the event will benefit the Joan and Alan Herfort, M.D. cardiac catheterization laboratory at White Plains Hospital.

Branford Marsalis is a renowned Grammy-award® winning saxophonist and Tony-award® nominee composer who is one of the most revered instrumentalists of his time. Leader of one of the finest jazz quartets today, and a frequent soloist with classical ensembles, Mr. Marsalis has become increasingly sought after as a featured soloist with such acclaimed orchestras as the Chicago, Detroit, Düsseldorf, and North Carolina Symphonies and the Boston Pops.

Vocalist Javier Colon won over the hearts of millions of Americans in 2011, when he was the winner of the inaugural season of the U.S. television show on NBC, The Voice. Colon has released several solo albums in his signature “acoustic soul” genre and continues to be a sought-after performer for national and international audiences.

The Capitol Theatre, in the heart of Port Chester, NY, has enjoyed a recent rejuvenation thanks to a $2 million overhaul undertaken by music entrepreneur Peter Shapiro in 2011. The theatre originally opened in 1926 and has attracted world-famous music groups in its 87-year history. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

“We are very excited to be hosting this benefit concert with two of the most extraordinarily talented musicians of our time under one roof,” said Dawn W. French, Vice President for Marketing and Community Relations at White Plains Hospital. “The evening will be a celebration of the remarkable growth of our hospital in the past few years, and the very exciting developments coming in the near future.”

The hospital is currently in the midst of its most significant renovation project in its 120-year history, with ongoing construction on a new lobby, entranceway, patient tower, operating suites and radiology area, among other upgrades.
