The direct and indirect costs to the health care system associated with obesity are about $117 billion annually.

Dr. Mithani received her undergraduate degree from Trinity University in San Antonio in 2001 and her medical degree from the University of Texas Health Sciences Center at San Antonio in 2006. She completed her residency in General Surgery at the St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland in 2011, followed by a fellowship in minimally invasive surgery at the Hackensack University Medical Center in 2012.
